Scientific Officer

About the role

The role of the Scientific Officer is primarily to assist GFP's Senior Animal Scientist and its Science and Extension team in the development and delivery of a research and training strategy and help on a variety of projects centred around the adoption of higher welfare cage- free producer systems. This work will include both desk and field duties to create training and other materials to build the capacity of egg producers and other stakeholders in best practice cage-free egg production. The fundamental objective of this role is to support the transition to higher welfare cage-free production systems across the Asian region.

Responsibilities include

  • Facilitating education and training for egg producers, including coordinating meetings and organising workshops and seminars
  • Drafting, editing, fact checking and proof-reading training materials, guidelines, videos, course content, and other technical documents
  • Supporting GFP’s farm consultation activities, including conducting on-site visits, writing reports, and providing recommendations to egg producers
  • Supporting the establishment of GFP’s model farms and training centres
  • Developing and delivering presentations for internal and external webinars and events
  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Animal Scientist.

We are a small, dynamic team seeking a highly motivated and proactive individual to contribute to our work. The successful candidate will:

  • Have a strong commitment to advancing higher welfare farm animal production
  • Have excellent organisational and problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Work well in a team as well as independently
  • Have relevant scientific, agricultural or project management qualifications or experience, ideally in livestock production or welfare
  • Have a thorough knowledge of laying hen welfare and egg production systems
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. A working knowledge of Asian languages is a plus
  • Be confident public speaking
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Be willing and able to travel internationally

Corporate Relationship Manager — China

About the role

The Corporate Relationship Manager will be responsible for developing and managing long-term corporate relationships to support their transition to higher welfare cage-free egg sourcing. The role involves both desk and field work, including organising and participating in industry events and leading corporate & key stakeholder meetings throughout the country.

Scope of work

Key job responsibilities of the Corporate Relationship Manager include:

  • Developing and managing corporate relationships with current and potential clients and other stakeholders in China, including food retailers, food processors/manufacturers, restaurant groups, food service providers, hospitality companies, airlines, egg suppliers and industry associations;
  • Serving as the main point of contact for corporate contacts and clients in China;
  • Supporting corporate clients in the implementation of their cage-free egg sourcing policies;
  • Supporting with language interpretation during presentations, calls, interviews, and other interactions with Mandarin-speaking stakeholders;
  • Assisting in the development, translation and review of Chinese language resources (presentations, corporate proposals, materials, publications, and others);
  • Serving as a spokesperson for GFP in meetings, media interviews, and public speaking engagements such as webinars, seminars, workshops, and conferences, to promote further engagement with potential clients from the food and hospitality industry, and garner greater visibility for the company; [DN1]
  • Collaborating with other team members in China and throughout Asia to advance GFP goals and projects;
  • Identifying and leading new and existing opportunities to advance GFP’s work in China, including through partnerships and participation in corporate events; recruiting high-level speakers and participants;
  • Organising and leading corporate events such as industry roundtables and working groups;
  • Building and maintaining a database of Chinese food & hospitality businesses, industry associations, and other relevant industry stakeholders;
  • Any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Native Chinese speaker with excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working with the food and hospitality industries, including in supply chain & procurement, sustainability, CSR initiatives, or other related topics within the food industry;
  • Good working knowledge of English, both written and spoken;
  • Experience engaging and working with food & hospitality associations, suppliers, media and related stakeholders;
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills;
    Work well independently and as part of a team;
  • Availability to travel within the country; traveling may involve sporadic farm visits;
  • Proactive and strong work ethic;
  • Strong network of contacts withing the food and hospitality industries in China is highly desirable;
  • Post-graduate degree in business administration, sustainability, supply chain or related topics is a plus;
  • Knowledge of farm animal welfare is a plus.
