Business Development Lead – Japan

Global Food Partners (GFP) is seeking a Business Development Lead to lead its work with the food and hospitality industries in Japan.

About the Role
The Business Development Lead will be responsible for developing and managing long-term corporate relationships with clients from the food and hospitality sectors, as well as stakeholders in the egg industry, to support their transition to higher welfare cage-free egg sourcing and production practices in Japan. The role involves both desk and field work, including organising and participating in industry events, and leading key stakeholder meetings throughout the country.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Developing and managing corporate relationships with current and potential clients and other industry stakeholders in Japan, including food retailers, food processors/manufacturers, restaurant groups, food service providers, hospitality companies, airlines, egg suppliers/producers and relevant industry associations;
  • Securing and maintaining relationships and partnerships with above-mentioned stakeholders; Supporting corporate clients in the development and implementation of their cage-free egg sourcing policies; Working with decision-makers, and sustainability, procurement, and other relevant departments at these companies to ensure they have appropriate guidance and resources to meet their animal welfare sourcing policies, with a focus on cage-free egg procurement;
  • Working together with GFP’s animal scientists to ensure that egg suppliers and producers have appropriate guidance and resources to successfully transition to higher welfare production practices in cage-free egg production;
  • Serving as the main point of contact for industry stakeholders and corporate clients in Japan; 
    Collaborating with other team members in Japan and throughout Asia to advance GFP goals and projects;
    Supporting with language interpretation during presentations, calls, interviews, and other interactions with Japanese-speaking stakeholders;
  • Assisting in the development, translation and review of Japanese language resources (presentations, corporate proposals, materials, publications, and others);
  • Serving as a spokesperson for GFP in meetings, media interviews, and public speaking engagements such as webinars, seminars, workshops, and conferences, to promote further engagement with stakeholders and potential clients from the food and hospitality industries, and garner greater visibility for the company;
    Identifying and leading new and existing opportunities to advance GFP’s work in Japan, including through partnerships and participation in corporate events; recruiting high-level speakers and participants; 
  • Developing GFP’s brand in terms of corporate interest and raising its profile and reputation as a sought-after corporate partner and a leader in its field in Japan;
  • Building and maintaining a database of Japanese food & hospitality businesses, industry associations, and other relevant industry stakeholders;
  • Any tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements

  • Native Japanese speaker, with excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience working with the food and hospitality industries,  including sales, business development, supply chain and procurement, sustainability, CSR initiatives, or other related topics within the food industry;
  • Good working knowledge of English, both written and spoken;
  • Experience engaging and working with suppliers, food & hospitality associations, event organisers, media and related stakeholders;
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills;
  • Work well independently, and as part of a team;
  • Availability to travel within the country; travelling may involve sporadic farm visits;
  • Proactive and strong work ethic;
  • A strong network of contacts withing the food and hospitality industries in japan is highly desirable;
  • A degree in business administration, sustainability, animal science or related topics is a plus;
  • Knowledge in farm animal welfare is a plus.

Hours of work: 40 hours per week
Rate of pay: We pay competitive rates. Exact rate of pay dependent on experience and qualifications. 8 to 10 million JPY per annum (72,700 to 90,900 USD).

Global Food Partners  is seeking a Corporate Relationship Manager to lead its work with the food and hospitality industries in China.

About the Role

Project Coordinator – Indonesia

Global Food Partners is seeking a Project Coordinator to help coordinate its work establishing a cage-free model farm and training centre at the Universitas of Gadjah Mada campus in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

About the Role
The role of the Project Coordinator is primarily to assist in the development of GFP’s Indonesian cage-free training centre. The Project Coordinator will also provide support for other GFP projects focusing on the transition to cage-free egg production systems and improving layer hen welfare in Indonesia. This work may involve both desk and field work.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinating the development of GFP’s Indonesian cage-free training centre through the following: working with the industry consortium and academic partner on the design, construction and operation of the centre; organising and hosting regular project meetings; managing workflows and project deadlines; and providing regular progress reports to the rest of the team;
  • Serving as a point of contact for Indonesian egg producers and other industry stakeholders;
  • Assisting in the development and review of Bahasa Indonesia language resources;
  • Building and maintaining a database of Indonesian egg producers, industry associations, food & hospitality businesses and other relevant industry stakeholders; build relationships and partnerships with these stakeholders;
  • Identifying and developing new and existing opportunities to advance GFP’s work in Indonesia, including through partnerships, events, funding opportunities and research.

Job Requirements

  • Scientific, agricultural or project management qualifications or experience, ideally in livestock production or welfare;
  • Knowledge in laying-hen welfare and egg production systems;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Bahasa Indonesia and English;
  • Have excellent organisational and problem-solving skills;
  • Work well independently and as part of a team;
  • A strong commitment to advancing higher welfare farm animal production.

Project Coordinator – Online Courses

Global Food Partners is seeking a Project Coordinator to coordinate the translation of our English online training courses into several other languages. 

About the Role
The role of the Project Coordinator is primarily to coordinate the translation and production of GFP’s online training courses into various other languages. The training courses consist of a number of modules, where each module covers a different topic and is presented in the form of a video. For each module, there is a short assessment to help reinforce the content. The courses will be made available on an e-learning platform.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinating the translation of the English training course content (including scripts, PowerPoint Presentations and assessment questions) into Mandarin, Thai, Bahasa Indonesian, Japanese and Korean;
  • Working with various third parties to translate, proof-read and format the content to produce one video for each module, in each language;
  • Reviewing and providing feedback on each component as it is provided by third parties; 
  • Liaising with other GFP team members for review and input on each component;
  • Uploading training materials to the e-learning platform and performing tests prior to launching the course;
  • Maintaining a database of translators, designers and editors and organising invoices for payment;
  • Managing workflows and project deadlines ;
  • Other duties that may arise and that are deemed necessary to complete this project.

Job Requirements

  • Have project coordinator experience, or demonstrated ability to be able to fulfill the responsibilities of the role (as above);
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. A working knowledge of one or more of the following languages would be ideal but not a requirement: Mandarin, Thai, Bahasa Indonesia, Japanese or Korean;
  • Have excellent organisational, problem-solving skills and attention to detail;
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications and have experience using an online project management system;
  • Work well independently and as part of a team;
  • Have a strong commitment to advancing higher welfare farm animal production.

Additional Details
Position type: Consultant / Independent Contractor
Hours of work: Part-time. Work hours may vary. We estimate the role requiring a maximum of 4 hours of work per day (20 hours per week) for the next 6 months.
Rate of pay: The rate of pay will be calculated on an hourly basis and will be based on, among other things, a candidate’s experience and education.
Location: Preference will be given to applicants located in Asia, although we will consider applicants located elsewhere. You will mainly be working remotely with regular virtual team meetings.
